1840- Claude Monet was born on November 14th in Paris, France.
1845- His family moves to Le Havre.
1857- His mother, Louise Monet, dies.
1858- Claude Monet meets Eugene Boudin who
encourages him to start painting outside of his home.
1859- Monet moves back to paris and gets into the
Swiss Academy.
1863- Monet paints "en plein air" in the Fontainebleau
forest.
1864- He meets his first art lover, Gaudibert, in
Honfleur.
1865- Monet's paintings are published to the official
Salon for the first time.
1867- The birth of Jean Monet, Claude Monet's first son.
1868- Monet tries to commit suicide and recieves a
pension from Mr. Gaudibert.
1870- Monet marries Camille and takes refuge in
London when the war begins.
1871- Monet meets Durand-Ruel in London. Death of
his father.
1874- Monet exhibits "Impression: sunrise" at the first
Impressionist exhibition at the studio of Nadar.
1877- He paints the saint-Lazare train station.
1878- The birth of Michel Monet, his second son.
1879- His wife, Camille, dies.
1881- The whole family moves to Poissy.
1887- Monet exhibits in New York.
1889- Monet exhibits with Rodin.
1891- Death of Ernest Hoschede. Monet paints the
series of Meules and of Peupliers.
1892- Monet paints the Rouen Cathedrals series and
marries Alice.
1900- Monet paints several paintings of the Japanese
bridge and takes several trips to London to paint views
of the Thames.
1904- Monet travels to Madrid.
1907- First problems with eyesight.
1911- The death of Alice.
1914- Death of Jean, Monet's oldest son.
1916- Monet decides to build a large studio at Giverny.
1916-1926- Claude Monet works on twelve large
canvases, The water Lilies. He offers to donate them to
France and is installed at the museum of Orangerie in
Paris.
1923- Monet has become nearly blind and has an
operation in one of his eyes which improves his eyesight.
1926- Monet suffers from lung cancer and dies on
December 5th. He is buried at Giverny in a simple
ceremony.
